APPOINTMENT ACCOMPANIMENT
You Should Never Have to Face a Medical Appointment Alone
Appointment Accompaniment is a private nursing service in which a registered nurse attends your medical visit alongside you, serving as your clinical advocate, note-taker, and calm, informed guide. It is what it feels like to walk into a doctor's office and truly know that someone has your back.

What Is Appointment Accompaniment?
Appointment Accompaniment is one of the most personal services offered through Lotus Mind & Body. At its core, it is elegantly simple: I accompany you — or your loved one — to any medical appointment, whether that means a visit with a specialist, a consultation with a surgeon, a session at an infusion center, a follow-up with an oncologist, a diagnostic imaging appointment, or a routine visit with your primary care physician. I am there, in the room, as your dedicated private registered nurse. Not as a bystander — but as an active, expert, and fully present member of your care team.
Medical appointments carry a weight that is rarely acknowledged by the healthcare system itself. In the space of fifteen or twenty minutes, a physician may deliver life-altering information, recommend treatments with complex trade-offs, adjust medications, and order a cascade of follow-up steps — all while you are sitting in a paper gown, processing emotions you didn't expect to feel, and trying desperately to hold onto every word. The research is clear and the experience is universal: patients recall only a fraction of what they are told during a clinical encounter. The fear of asking the "wrong" question silences many of us. The clinical language creates distance. And when you walk back out into the parking garage, you may feel more lost than when you arrived.
That is precisely the gap my practice was built to close. When I am with you, the entire tenor of your appointment changes. You are no longer navigating a foreign system alone — you have a fluent guide beside you. I translate the clinical world into your language, ensure your questions are heard and answered completely, and follow the thread of your care from the moment we prepare together through the days that follow your visit. Clients often tell me that for the first time in years, they left a doctor's appointment feeling genuinely informed, respected, and at ease. That transformation — from overwhelm to clarity — is the heart of what I do.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The Accompaniment Experience
Every accompaniment unfolds across three thoughtfully designed phases. Nothing is rushed. Nothing is left to chance.
PHASE ONE — BEFORE THE APPOINTMENT
Preparation & Intention
We begin before you ever step through the clinic door. In a private pre-visit consultation — conducted by phone, video, or in person, whichever you prefer — I take the time to understand not just your medical history, but your concerns, your communication style, and what you most need from this particular visit. I review your relevant records, recent lab work, imaging reports, and any correspondence from prior providers. From there, I craft a curated list of questions tailored specifically to your appointment type and your goals. If you are meeting with a new specialist, we prepare differently than if you are returning for a post-surgical check-in. By the time your appointment arrives, you will feel grounded, prepared, and clear on what success looks like — because we will have defined it together.
PHASE TWO — DURING THE APPOINTMENT
Presence, Advocacy & Clarity
I am in the room with you — seated, attentive, and ready. While your physician speaks, I am taking detailed clinical notes, tracking every recommendation, every medication adjustment, every referral, and every instruction. When a term goes unexplained, I ask for clarification. When a critical question from our preparation list hasn't been addressed, I raise it. When the pace of the appointment accelerates — as it so often does — I slow it down on your behalf. My role is not to speak over you or to take control of your care; it is to ensure that your voice is fully heard, that no important detail slips through, and that you leave the room with a complete, accurate picture of what was discussed. Physicians and clinical staff consistently welcome my presence — a knowledgeable, professional advocate elevates the quality of the encounter for everyone involved.
PHASE THREE — AFTER THE APPOINTMENT
Debrief, Clarity & Follow-Through
The appointment ending is not where my support ends — it is where some of the most valuable work begins. Following your visit, I provide either a same-day debrief call or a written plain-language summary (or both), distilling everything that was discussed into clear, accessible terms that you can return to and share with family members. I explain diagnoses, outline next steps, and walk through any new prescriptions or treatment recommendations so that nothing remains confusing or abstract. If follow-up appointments need to be scheduled, referrals pursued, or additional records requested, I coordinate those actions so that the momentum of your care doesn't stall. Within 48 hours, I check in personally to see how you are feeling and whether any new questions have surfaced. The clinical encounter is complete; your support is not.

Who This Service Is For
Appointment Accompaniment was designed for anyone who has ever felt that the healthcare system moves too fast, speaks a language they don't quite understand, or simply doesn't leave enough room for the human being sitting across from the physician. My clients are a beautifully diverse group — united not by diagnosis, but by the shared desire to feel truly supported. They include patients navigating a new or complex diagnosis who need a knowledgeable guide to help them understand their options and advocate for their preferences. They include seniors here in Greater Boston whose adult children live out of state or whose schedules make it impossible to attend every cardiology check-in or orthopedic follow-up. They include busy executives — CEOs, attorneys, physicians themselves — who cannot afford the confusion, the follow-up gaps, or the cognitive load of managing a medical situation without expert support. They include anyone who has ever walked out of a doctor's office holding a business card and a referral slip, more uncertain than when they walked in. And they include clients whose medical anxiety is real and significant — for whom having a calm, expert, familiar presence in the room makes the difference between attending an appointment and avoiding one. Wherever you are in your health journey, if you have ever wished for someone who simply knows what to do and is unequivocally on your side — this service was made for you.
A Few Scenarios That May Feel Familiar
ONCOLOGY APPOINTMENT
Margaret had been coming to her oncology appointments alone for three months — not because she lacked people who loved her, but because she didn't want to worry them. When I joined her for her fourth visit, she said afterward that it was the first time she had actually understood her treatment plan. She hadn't realized there were questions she hadn't thought to ask. We left with a written summary, a clear timeline, and — for the first time — a sense of direction that felt less like fog and more like a road she could actually see.
SENIOR — CARDIOLOGY VISIT
Robert is 79 and sharp as ever, but his daughter in Chicago worries each time he has a cardiology follow-up in Cambridge. She reached out to Lotus Mind & Body after his last visit resulted in a medication change that no one — not her father, not she herself — fully understood. I accompanied Robert to his next appointment, translated the physician's recommendations into plain language in real time, reviewed the new prescription with him on the drive home, and called his daughter that evening to debrief. She told me it was the first time she had felt genuinely at peace about her father's care.
BUSY PROFESSIONAL — UNEXPECTED DIAGNOSIS
David runs a financial services firm in the Seaport and had blocked ninety minutes for what he expected to be a routine endocrinology appointment. It was not routine. He received a diagnosis he wasn't prepared for, a treatment recommendation with several variables, and a referral he didn't know how to navigate — all in under twenty minutes. Because I was there, none of it was lost. He left with notes, a clear next-step plan, and my number to call when the questions arrived later that evening. They did. We talked through every one.
Pricing & Booking
Accompaniment service fees are thoughtfully structured based on appointment type, anticipated duration, and location within the Greater Boston area — from the Back Bay and Beacon Hill to Newton, Cambridge, Brookline, and beyond. Because no two appointments are alike, I believe in transparent, personalized pricing rather than a one-size-fits-all rate.
I warmly invite you to schedule a complimentary discovery call, during which we can discuss the specifics of your situation, the nature of the appointment, and the level of support that would serve you best. There is no obligation — only an honest conversation about whether Lotus Mind & Body is the right fit for your needs.
Accompaniment services are available for a single appointment or as part of a Lotus Concierge Membershipplan, which provides ongoing, priority access to the full range of services my practice offers.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you accompany me to any type of appointment — including surgery or procedures?
In most cases, yes. I am able to accompany clients to the vast majority of medical encounters — specialist consultations, oncology infusions, imaging appointments, pre-surgical assessments, and same-day procedure check-ins. For surgical cases specifically, I can be present for the pre-operative preparation and family consultation, and I coordinate closely with clinical staff regarding any facility-specific protocols for support persons. We will discuss the particulars of your situation during your discovery call so that I can be as helpful as possible on the day.
Will the doctor or medical staff mind having a nurse present?
In my experience — consistently and without exception — physicians and clinical teams welcome a knowledgeable advocate in the room. A well-prepared private nurse elevates the quality of the encounter: questions are clearer, communication is more efficient, and the likelihood of miscommunication or missed information is significantly reduced. I introduce myself professionally, collaborate respectfully, and never position myself in opposition to the clinical team. My presence complements theirs. Most providers find that appointments with an accompaniment nurse on hand proceed more smoothly than those without one.
What if my appointment runs long or I need more support than expected?
I build flexibility into every accompaniment engagement. My time is reserved for you — I do not have another client waiting, and I will never rush you out of a room because of a scheduling conflict on my end. If an appointment runs significantly longer than anticipated, or if an unexpected development arises that requires additional time, support, or immediate coordination, I remain present for as long as you need me. Any extended time beyond the agreed scope is discussed transparently and handled with the same care as the original booking.
Can you accompany a family member on my behalf?
Absolutely — and this is one of the most meaningful ways adult children engage my services. If your parent, spouse, or loved one has an appointment and you are unable to be physically present, I serve as your trusted proxy: attending in your place, keeping you informed in real time or by summary afterward, and ensuring that the person you love receives the same quality of advocacy and care that you would provide yourself, if only geography or circumstance allowed. Many of my clients in Greater Boston have family members who manage their parents’ care remotely from other cities — this service gives everyone involved genuine peace of mind.
Do you take notes I can keep?
Yes — always. Detailed, accurate note-taking is one of the cornerstones of every accompaniment. Following your appointment, you receive a polished, plain-language written summary of everything that was discussed: diagnoses, treatment recommendations, medication changes, follow-up instructions, and any open questions that warrant further inquiry. This document is uploaded securely to your client portal and is yours to reference, share with family members, or bring to a second-opinion consultation. It is not a clinical chart — it is a clear, human-readable account of your visit, written with your understanding and your life in mind.
Is this service available outside of Boston proper?
Yes. While my practice is rooted in Greater Boston, I regularly accompany clients to appointments throughout the surrounding communities — including Cambridge, Brookline, Newton, Lexington, Woburn, Waltham, and other towns within the metro area. For appointments at major academic medical centers such as Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham and Women's, Dana-Farber, or Beth Israel Deaconess, I am deeply familiar with the environments and the particular dynamics of care within those institutions. For appointments requiring travel beyond the immediate area, I am happy to discuss the specifics during your discovery call.
